Bones 8.15 The Shot in the Dark

Post by TJ4ever »

I think it's the first time I start a new topic. That's so exciting! :-)

OK, just watched that ep. Somehow by accident, because I actually wanted to watch the new CASTLE ep. Yeah, sorry! :eusa-shifty:

I'm not such a good writer and not so good in reviewing eps, so you're stuck with this!

First scene I noticed that Brennan and Booth use the same product to dye their hair. Look at it again! They have the same hair color! ;-) But when I saw this scene I noticed this will gonna be a private ep. No big location changes or hunts or shootings. It was more about the characters and their feelings. All of it done in a studio to save money I guess. But that's not supposed to be bad.

Well, I think there are better episodes. With more action (shootings, hunts, more suspects). But what I like at this ep is that Brennan showed some feelings. The scenes with her mother - I like the perception that we will see our loved ones again when we're dead. What I also thought was that I would give a lot to talk to my grandma one more time. Tell her how much I miss her, how much I love her and that I am sorry I didn't stay in the hospital the night she died. All this made me cry. Strange what television can do to you.

So, this ep has a message. Never go out of the house angry after a fight. So much can happen and then you'll regret it forever when you think about why you were fighting. One should always have that in mind. But I know that is difficult. I once mentioned that a former colleague died in an accident recently. She was my age. So, you should always tell your loved once how you feel about them and when you fight try to make up immediately. Life is short! Live it and be happy! But I know it's sometimes difficult to do that.

OK, enough philosophy! Maybe someone has a different angle to review this ep and I can comment on that. It's always difficult to find a beginning! Uh, one question! I didn't quite unterstand why Clark was there? He seems to be there voluntarily and unexpected!

Oh, and I wanna tell you that I love you all. And after all this years I still love to come here and post and I hope everybody else is feeling the same way. :romance-smileyheart:

Angela: Well, what about love? What do you have to say about love?
Hodgins: It´s overrated-most of the time :-)

Dexter: They make it look so easy-connecting with another human being. It's like no one told them it's the hardest thing in the world.

Mmmm :eusa-think:
My first thought about this ep is that there is a lack of action for sure...

I like the bullet idea, pretty cool and really not what you expect to find (well I did think of the ice bullet very early, but wouldn't have thought of a blood one, good point ^_^)

Many Hodgins scenes (Woohoo!!! ^_^)
I agree, Clark was here... But we don't know why. Even if we guess he was there voluntarily...

Well, we sure as heck didn't care about this victim, did we? Or even Hal! Both participants in a very unpleasant deception and, as it turns out, a violent one (btw how could that icon have been relatively undamaged after it had been used to clobber someone pretty hard?).Yes, the whole point of this one was the relationships and the theme of moving on. Brennan moving on to flourishing instead of surviving, something that involves being more vulnerable. Sparling and Sweets moving on. Max being helped somewhat amidst lasting grief by hearing a message from his wife. Change is important in our lives, but not for the sake of others - genuine change so that we can progress and develop.

The arguments that are juxtaposed in this episode, both prior to significant events in the lives of those involved, are both to do with change. Booth wants Brennan to be more spontaneous. Her mother wanted her to be more rational so that she wouldn't get hurt (apparently she had been 'dreamy and emotional' and willing to change herself for her current crush! I really can't imagine it!), with the result that she never changed herself for another person again. Here her mother is suggesting that now she is secure perhaps it is time to change a bit, to let some of the little girl out for Booth's sake. And as Simone says, the big lesson is: never let the sun go down on your anger, always let the people you love know how important they are in your life; you don't know what might happen tomorrow that could leave one of you full of guilt.

There were some nice continuity points, as you'd expect in an episode so concerned with Brennan's parents. I appreciated the familiar montage of Brennan putting a skeleton together, reconstructing the person. It was good to see Sparling again. And Brennan's whole attitude to being with her mother was very reassuring. She felt that as she doesn't believe in heaven her brain was trying to make sense of what had happened to her and producing hallucinations. And that is very much the rational approach of the scientist, thinking one can understand things which are simply not understandable. The fact that she argued her case stubbornly with her 'hallucinatory' mother was totally believable.

I love that Hodgins solves the conundrum once again. I had already postulated an ice bullet, but a blood one - hadn't even thought about it. Well done, Jack!

In spite of the fact that cases solved by remote control, with very little real 'hands on' outside the lab, are always somewhat distancing for the viewer, the change of pace was well-judged and the characters showed genuine development. I liked this one.
