On this day of Thanksgiving, I am thankful for my family who took me in when I was struggling after being laid off from my job. I am thankful that they continue to give me a home when I need it, as I get back on my feet again.

Even though I would love to be back out on my own, I am thankful for having a safe roof over my head, a bed to sleep in, food to eat, and a car to get places and have some independence.

I am thankful that after three years out of work, I have a job this year.

I am thankful that that job is in a field of creativity, which suits me more than corporate work.

I am thankful that they are flexible -- that I didn't already have to have a ton of skill, that they give me room to learn, and give me a free enough schedule to keep attending classes, working toward a new degree.

I am thankful to be taking interesting, challenging classes, and that even though I'm FREAKING TIRED, I'm doing things that are creative and (for the most part) really fun.

I am thankful to have people in my life that understand me and love me and encourage me even when I'm feeling stupid or unattractive or untalented or uncertain.

I am thankful to have people in my life who 'get' me and cheer me on, even when others (including sometimes my own family) look at me like my interests are insane or weird or unfathomable.

I am thankful that Sharon, Steph and Tj gave me a chance to try my hand at writing for this site. I am really grateful that Tj liked it.

I am thankful for Tj and his ever-present positivity.

I am thankful for those who inspire me and energize me.

And I am thankful for all of you.

Happy Thanksgiving! :romance-smileyheart:

A question for you all today:

If you could go anywhere in the United States for a 3-day weekend, where would you go? What would you want to see or do? Why?

Or... is there a place you've already been in the US that you would highly recommend, and if so, why?

:D

Hmm, would I have an unlimited budget?

So that is a hard questions to answer because there are soooooooooo many places in the U.S. I'd like to visit. But well, my first two choices, I'd go to NYC and go to some Broadway shows, visit the Intrepid museum and the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. That is my touristy weekend.

Second choice (though this one appeals more to me right now), I'd go to York, Maine, and take book and sit on the rocks across from the lighthouse there, and read. All 3 days. And maybe stop by Browns Ice Cream if it is open. And walk the nature trails there. It is probably nice-meaning not too hot or too cold- in Maine right now and not quite time for tourists so it'd be ideal. :D

Well, in your DREAMS you can have an unlimited budget. :D But in reality... my reality... yeah, there's a limit.

I'm turning the big 4-0 this summer (I know! Shocking, right??!) and my sister wants to take me on a weekend trip somewhere to celebrate. I'm supposed to give her some suggestions so she can plan. I don't know where to go for only 3 days and 2 nights. (It would likely be a Fri-Sat-Sun trip. Maybe I could get her to go for an extra day, but I don't know if it's in our budget.)

Off the top of my head... I've been to Washington D.C., Florida, Boston MA, Seattle WA, Portland & Eugene OR, Pennsylvania, Atlanta GA, and of course Illinois and Wisconsin where my family is based. And I've been to NYC a couple of times (once on a high school choir trip and once on a road trip with a friend of mine), though I can never get enough of NYC. :icon-mrgreen:

Of course, there are so many other places to visit that I have never seen yet, especially out west and south. I just want to pick something that will be fun (and/or relaxing) for both me and my sister.

Hmmmmm. :eusa-think:

So is this a driving trip? So it'd have to be close enough to get to so you'd have enough time to have fun?

And sheesh you are a young'un.

You could come visit me but I don't think El Paso would be a lot of fun nor is it close enough to drive. LOL Austin is AWESOME (but again probably too far away).

No, she says she's got some airline miles saved up that we could use, so it would be a flying trip. (Yeah, driving trip would limit things quite a bit.) She just wants to know what place(s) draw me the most, so she can see if her miles would cover it and then the 2 of us would scout out a plan for fun things to do in only 3 days. :D

Think TJ would give us a tour of the Bones set? ;)

I'm kidding... my birthday's in August; he'd be way too busy filming stuff by then. LOL. But I can dare to daydream for a moment about how fun that would be. :eusa-think: (I need a smiley with a happy thought-bubble for daydreaming. Heeee.)

I don't know, but it apparently isn't as impossible as he once told me it was. LOL You should ask him. You'd have to do that on Friday though...luckily he nearly ALWAYS works on Fridays so who knows? Only don't write through the contact form and ask because he wouldn't see it for a long, long time (takes a very long time for him to look at mail...).

Oh no, I couldn't bother him at work! :eusa-hand: (Though it sure would be a kick to see that Jeffersonian set, that's for sure. Very surreal, I'd imagine.)

I don't know if my sister and I would go to California. Actually, that's an interesting thought because I've never been to that state. There's not just L.A. or Hollywood but San Francisco, or Malibu, or so many beaches and lovely places to visit. I'd have to research! :D Cool sister I have, though, right? :icon-mrgreen:

WOW going to the US??? That would already be a dream... But where to go? Hmmmm...
I think I would mention the Niagara falls somewhere, but since I will be going there with my class next year (yup, Canada with school from Europe!!) I wouldn't have to see it during my trip...
I'd like to visit Marina del Rey, first because, I mean, it has my name :D and also because WATER!!!!! :happy-bouncycyan: :happy-bouncyblue:
I like water, I like swimming, I need a swimmingpool in my garden haha :greetings-clappingyellow:... but then I could go anywhere around the west or east coast so yeah.. but Marina would be my choice :D
I'd also like to visit LA then, and also visit the FOXlot... If it's possible...
So yeah, I'd go for California.. or Texas, that sounds fun too.. GOSH I CAN'T CHOOSE I'M A HORRIBLE CHOISE MAKER UGH!
So.... Marina :D

Thanks for the suggestions, Marina! By the way, I love your name. Years ago, I worked at a Renaissance faire during the summers, and I used the name Marina as my character's name for all the performances. :D I think it's a beautiful name.

Random thought for tonight, but one worth mentioning:

I just finished watching the Olympics Opening Ceremonies. WELL DONE, LONDON! :eusa-clap: I especially loved the young athletes who hugged their mentors and then symbolically took torches from them. And I loved the idea of the big torch, how it was made up of pieces from each and every country involved in the Games. I may have teared up a bit. :icon-mrgreen:

Steph, are you near where any of this is being held? Is it total chaos? And will you get the opportunity to attend any of the Games? My uncle was living in Atlanta, Georgia, when the Olympics were held there and he said he got to see a number of things like baseball and swimming (but not gymnastics, which is apparently the most desired sport to watch and therefore the most expensive tickets to purchase).

Torchwood - Miracle Day: ....or be careful what you wish for!
I don't wanna write a long review (like I ever have! LOL) Let me just say, it was sad. I cried a lot. And it was fun, too. Captain Jack is so cool! I missed him! But I always liked Ianto very much and I would have liked it more with him in it. Sad that he died last season! (...well, but in Torchwood nobody is really dead, right! Right??? One can hope! ;-) ) They showed it here the whole weekend always from 8-11 or 12 pm. It was long. Sometimes I couldn't watch it anymore. And the back and forth between USA and UK was sometimes annoying. Jack in the USA, Gwen in the UK - annoying. They are best when they are together! :-) Great acting, interesting story! ...man Bill Pullman got old! I loved him in "While you were sleeping"! That movie was done 17 years ago! Well, guess that reminded me that I got old, too. :-(
Back to Torchwood - Miracle Day! ;-) After all a very entertaining weekend! It was great to watch ...an interesting ending! Curious how it will resolve in the next season! There will be a next season, right?! Steph, Sherry, do you know that? I lost track on Torchwood news.

Thanks for reading! Any questions? Maybe I can remember any more details. :-)

Great summary, Simone! Although I do think you ought to warn people about that adult content such as people being burned alive! Sometimes I just didn't want to watch. And it is unremittingly gloomy about human nature. But then, what would we do if no-one in the world could die any more? I thought they approached that very intelligently. However, there were some instances where there was too much going on and I became confused about the reasons for it all and who was on whose side - too many arcs within the main one, I think.

Thanks for your chatbox thought that I could convert my player to play Region 1 DVDs so that I can possess Shuffle. I'll consider and investigate that. Another thing that disadvantages me in buying stuff from abroad is that I never buy things ON the internet. Yes, in addition to all my other self-created difficulties, I am a phobic about money and security in cyberspace! So if I can phone or write a cheque, fine. My Amazon account lies fallow now because they don't do those services any more. Ho hum.

Feel free to lol. :eusa-shifty:

Well, Steph, to each it's own! I must say I feel weird, too, when I buy things on the internet. But I do it anyway, because I want them so much and don't have any other possibility to get them! :-) LOL But your absolutely right and I'm always concerned, too. So I do understand your point.

Yeah, Torchwood, you're right, very adult entertainment! And it was confusing sometimes. To much going on. As I said Jack in the USA, Gwen in the UK. Who's with whom? I needed a break sometimes from watching it. You can explain everything so much better than me!

Let me know if it worked to set you DVD player to all regions - or Region 1. :romance-smileyheart:

I keep hearing great things about Breaking Bad, and since the setting is in my home state I've always wanted to watch it, but never got around to it. Maybe one of these days......

SONS OF ANARCHY!! Awesome!!! :text-woo: My husband and I watch it together (one of the only shows, lol!) and we've never missed an episode. The new season premier on Tuesday was intense, but since you haven't seen the last season I won't say anything. :D All I can say is, I really enjoyed the season they were in Ireland. :eusa-clap:
