Bones 9.13 The Big in the Philippines

Post by omelette73 »

Those are the episodes where Bones wins hands down over any other shows.
When it exhibits all the depth and the fragility of its characters, in association with a very good writing and an outstanding direction (kudos to DB), there is no competition whatsoever.

I loved this episode from every possible angle, starting from the way David Boreanaz took some of the shots, leaving me with the impression that when they found out the truth about Wendell, their time just froze, while the world kept running, unaware of what was happening.

I’m still not over the idea of Wendell having to fight the cancer, it’s not fair, he is too young, and vital… but I understand why they chose him, he is the only squintern who Booth can really call friend, and it was essential to show this connection between the two of them.
I loved the way B&B reacted too, without pulling him, and just being there for him… it was heart-crushing… still... that’s when Bones shows all it has to give, when you understand its real nature as “people show,” not just another crime TV program to add to a long list.

I hope they will not script out Wendell though, and I hope they let us know what happens next, without dropping this storyline. I only can imagine how devastated Hodgins and Angela are going to be when they'll found out the truth, if possible, they are even more close to Wendell than B&B.
I still have to process the episode, and I wasn't expecting the cancer being so serious, he is really risking his life, but I really think the story was beautifully told.

I agree that this was an excellent episode. It was heartbreaking learning that Wendell has cancer, and the scene where B & B broke the news to him brought a tear or two to my eye. Brennan's reaction got to me more just because she is usually so stoic about most everything.

The case was almost as sad. The poor musician who was finally heading to stardom and found someone to love was murdered before his time. His music was actually quite good and I'm wondering who the real singer was.

Sorry this isn't longer. I want to watch the episode again and maybe add more when I have more time. :)

Oh, I forgot to mention that even though Brennan looked at Wendell's x-rays out of concern for her employee, that's a big no-no in my field of work in Healthcare compliance, which could result in big fines and possible firing for a HIPAA violation like that. BUT...being a television show, I know there has to be some leniency for having a good storyline, so I forgive them. LOL!!! :D
